Privacy Policy

LonoText is a dictation app for Mac. This policy explains what data LonoText handles, why, and for how long. LonoText never stores your voice or your words.
- Dictation in English, and in the other languages Settings lists under “On this Mac”, happens entirely on your Mac.
- Arabic, Auto-detect and the other languages are sent, encrypted, to LonoText Cloud to be turned into text, as is a language while your Mac is still downloading it. LonoText keeps neither the audio nor the text.
- On plans with offline Arabic, Arabic is also listed under “On this Mac”: a key set to it is transcribed on your Mac, once your Mac has downloaded it.
- There's no account. Your Mac gets a random ID so we can count its free minutes.
- This website uses no cookies or trackers. It counts visits and downloads as one number a day, with nothing about who.
1. On your Mac
- Microphone: LonoText listens only while you hold a dictation key. Recordings aren't saved.
- Keys: LonoText watches for its dictation keys. It doesn't record or send anything else you type.
- Inserting text: LonoText pastes through the clipboard and then puts back what was there. Your clipboard never leaves your Mac.
- Clipboard history: off unless you turn it on in Settings › Clipboard. Then LonoText keeps the last 50 texts you copy, so you can paste them again, and skips what password managers mark as private. The history stays on your Mac, in the app's private storage and out of backups, and is never sent. Turning it off deletes it.
- Arabic on this Mac: on plans with offline Arabic, when you set a key to Arabic under “On this Mac”, your Mac downloads a speech model (about 1.6 GB) once. From then on, that key's Arabic is transcribed on your Mac, and nothing about it is sent. The model is deleted if your plan no longer includes offline Arabic.
- Stored on your Mac: your settings, your keywords, how many minutes you dictated on your Mac this month (counted there, never sent), and the credential that identifies your Mac to LonoText Cloud, all in the app's private storage.
2. What's sent to LonoText Cloud
When you dictate in a language that isn't on your Mac (Auto-detect, or a language listed under “LonoText Cloud” in Settings), the app sends:
- the recording;
- the language you chose (for Auto-detect, the languages on your keys) and your keywords, so names and terms are spelled the way you want;
- your Mac's credential and the app version.
This is used only to send the text back to you. LonoText doesn't store the audio or the text, doesn't use them to train anything, and doesn't read them. Our logs contain only the Mac's ID, the length of the recording and how long it took.
The app also asks LonoText Cloud for your Mac's plan and how many minutes it has left when it starts, and checks lonotext.com for updates about twice a day. Update checks don't include your Mac's ID.
3. Service providers
- A speech-recognition provider turns the audio into text. It doesn't use the audio to train its models, and may keep it for up to 30 days to detect abuse before deleting it.
- A model-hosting service serves the speech model your Mac downloads for Arabic on this Mac. Like any download, it sees your IP address; it receives nothing else from LonoText.
- A hosting provider runs LonoText Cloud, its database and this website. It processes network data such as your IP address to deliver and protect the service, and may keep request logs for a short time.
- Paddle sells LonoText's paid plans as the merchant of record. When you buy one, Paddle collects your name, email, address and payment details, handles taxes and receipts, and tells us what you bought and your customer ID with Paddle.
The speech-recognition and hosting providers work on our behalf under their data-processing terms; Paddle is the seller of record for purchases, under its own privacy policy. We don't sell your data or share it for advertising.
4. What we keep about each Mac
- a random ID (the Support ID shown in LonoText › Settings › Account) and a hash of the Mac's credential;
- when it was first and last used;
- the cloud minutes it used this month;
- its allowance, whether cloud dictation is turned off for it, and a note we may add to recognize beta testers;
- a keyed hash of the network it signed up from, used only to limit sign-ups per network per day, and deleted after a day;
- if you buy a plan: which plan, its status (for example, when it renews), your customer ID with Paddle, and the email you paid with, so you can restore your plan on another Mac. We email you only when you ask for a restore code.
We keep this while you use LonoText. To have it deleted, send us your Support ID.
5. This website
lonotext.com uses no cookies or trackers, and loads nothing from other sites, except Paddle's checkout when you buy a plan from LonoText's Upgrade button. Our hosting provider processes your IP address to deliver the pages.
To know how many people visit and download LonoText, the site counts each visit to the home page and each download, and keeps only the total for each day. Nothing about you is kept or stored in your browser for this: no cookie, no IP address, no ID. Your address is used only for a moment, so that one address can't inflate the count, and is then forgotten.
6. Your choices and rights
- Dictation in the languages listed under “On this Mac” works fully on your Mac, without LonoText Cloud.
- You can ask to see or delete the data about your Mac: send your Support ID to support@lonotext.com.
- Depending on where you live, you may have further rights, including complaining to your data protection authority.
7. Children
LonoText isn't meant for children under 13.
8. Changes
If this policy changes, the date above changes too. We'll announce important changes in the app or on this website.
